"Feel Free" (sextet version) - Live at Zebulon 5/30/10 (excerpt) by DuanePitre
"Feel Free" (solo version) - Live at Roussel Hall 4/9/10 (excerpt) by DuanePitre
Feel Free is a new work that is based around pre-recorded, guitar string harmonics tuned in Just Intonation. The harmonics are randomized in their order of play via computer, with the result touching on the sporadic, yet orderly nature of self-organizing systems, such as wind chimes. These randomized harmonics are the core of the piece, and with the addition of justly tuned electronics, can run as an installation, be carried out as a solo performance (by the composer), or made into an group performance with the augmentation of an array of acoustic instrumentation such as harp, violin, cello, hammered dulcimer, etc.
"Origin" (Five excerpts, one from each movement) by DuanePitre
Origin is a long-form piece in five movements (Sun AM, The Carpenter, Yahweh, Koan, Sun PM). For this sound sample I chose a segment of each movement and put them all together for the purpose of hearing a bit of each, to better understand the flow of the composition. It's Important to understand this is only small segments of a 40-minute long piece of music.

The entirety of Origin's musical material is comprised of the vibrating strings of Pitre's ensemble of bowed "harmonic-guitars," which are unconventionally strung electric guitars (utilizing multi-unisons) tuned to intervals corresponding with the Harmonic Series, a.k.a. Just Intonation. No effects processing (pre or post) was used in this recording. All effect-like qualities result from the multi-unison strings (phasing), sympathetic vibrations, combination/difference tones (of the chosen just tuning), and natural acoustic phenomena as such.

In 2010, Origin was released (vinyl/CD/digital download) on San Francisco-based label Root Strata

"ED09" - Live at Roulette (excerpt) by DuanePitre
ED09, recorded live at NYC's Roulette on 12/4/08. This performance (excerpt) features 21 string/wind performers accompanied by subtle layers of bowed guitar played by the composer. The piece is based on a score consisting of set playing methods, technique restrictions, fixed pitch classes, hand signals, and spontaneous conduction (aka real-time "mixing"). Released on limited edition CD-R by Austin-based Quiet Design Records.
