My new live LP, "ED09: Live at The Stone" is now available to order in my store (discography page). You have the choice of clear or black vinyl (both 180 gram), though I've only a small quantity of clear.
This performance, from Feb. '09, is a rendition of ED09 via an 11-piece string ensemble and features an optional dissonant section of the composition that was not utilized at the Dec. '08 Roulette performance (a now out of print CD). Additionally, a different approach was taken to recording this performance than Roulette (which was more ambient in quality)...the outcome being more present/intimate, a bit rawer as well. 09/15/11
I will be part of a group art show, titled NOLA NOW, Part I: Swagger for a Lost Magnificence, at New Orleans' Contemporary Art Center from October 1, 2011 - January 29, 2012.
There are 35 artists in this show, a number significant as the CAC is celebrating their 35th year in 2011. I will be contributing the sole sound installation for the show, which will also include visual works such as drawing, film, installation, painting, performance, photography, sculpture, and video. Opening Reception: October 1, 2011 (6-9pm), which I will be attending ... more info 08/16/11
New LP out soon, "ED09 for String Ensemble: Live at The Stone" (from a Feb. '09 performance). Check out a sound excerpt, the artwork, & words on ED09 at the Basses Frequences website. This vinyl only release (no mp3s) will be available as a 180gram 12", edition of 350 (70 clear/280 black).
And on a different note, mixing of the sextet version of Feel Free (see previous post) is almost finished and it is sounding fantastic! 06/07/11
The Duane Pitre Sextet was in Woodstock over Memorial Day weekend recording the sextet version of Feel Free. It was a wonderful time (with a great group) spent at The Isokon recording studio, tucked away in the wooded mountains of NY. See some posts about it on the DP Facebook page... 03/31/11
Some late reviews for "Origin" (my record length work for bowed harmonic-guitar ensemble released last year) have been coming in...here are a couple: Cyclic Defrost Touching Extremes. Additionally, the record made several "Best of 2010" lists on blogs and record store sites. Here are a few of them: Though the "Origin" vinyl is almost out of print (the distributor is out of them) I have a handful of them, along with the CD version, available via my discography/store page...BUY IT HERE 02/15/11

All four pieces will be performed on March 12th in Brooklyn Heights at St. Ann's Cathedral (completed in 1848 and considered one of the finest masterpieces of the Gothic Revival style in America)...more details to come... Today is the release of my new record "Origin," which contains a 40-minute composition of the same name. Set in 5 movements, the entirety of Origin's musical material is comprised of the vibrating strings of my ensemble of bowed "harmonic-guitars," which are unconventionally strung electric guitars (utilizing multi-unisons) tuned to intervals corresponding with the Harmonic Series, a.k.a. Just Intonation.
Released on the San Francisco-based label Root Strata, Origin is available now on vinyl LP (limited edition of 300) with the CD version coming out this August. The LP comes with a download coupon for DRM-free MP3s of the entire album. Check out what KFW's Mimaroglu Music Sales had to say about Origin; you can pick it up there, on my discography/store page, ThrillJockey.com, amongst other online retailers...or going down to your local record store is always fun. Listen to excerpts of the piece/record here 5/1/10
Check out the redesigned Sound Page with SoundCloud widgets and explanations of some select tracks (instead of linking it to clunky myspace like I had it doing in the past). There you'll find an excerpt of a new work-in-progress, titled Feel Free, performed live last month at Loyola University's Roussel Hall as well as a sampler of Origin, which will be released by Root Strata next month on 12" vinyl (w/ CD & digital download coming in the following months).

Review from The Wire Magazine of The Harmonic Series: A Compilation of Musical Works in Just Intonation.
11/13/09
I'd like to announce the release of a special compilation that I curated over the past 2+ years, consisting of some amazing artists, called The Harmonic Series: A Compilation of Musical Works in Just Intonation. This project was a long journey, but well worth the work and wait. You can buy the CD via my discography page (which also doubles as my online store). Check out the press release, learn more about the artists, explore educational links on Just Intonation, and more at www.theharmonicseries.com. Read what Baltimore's City Paper had to say about it and listen to mp3 samples of a few tracks at www.importantrecords.com. Enjoy.

Some reviews of ED09 for String/Wind Ensemble - Live at Roulette:Cyclic Defrost (Australia) Vital Weekly (The Netherlands) 7/1/09
I have a new release available, via Quiet Design Records, of a live performance of ED09. This was a 22-piece ensemble performance of the piece that took place at NYC's Roulette in December '08. From the Quiet Design site: "ED09 is an evolving, long-tone composition by Duane Pitre. This recording features 21 of New York's finest string/wind performers accompanied by subtle layers of bowed electric guitar played by the composer". Read more about it and purchase it here. 6/16/09
I've recently finalized a few records (two live and one studio) and aside from some composing and experimentating with a new "electronic" setup, I'm enjoying a mellow beginning of the summer. My next performance will not be until August 29th at MoMA's PS1 art center in Long Island City, NY. This performance is part the PS1's summer 2009 Warm-Up series. Also performing in the 2009 series will be Glenn Branca, Elliott Sharp, Zeena Parkins, Stars Like Fleas, Growing, Talibam!, and more. These events are punctual and I'll start at 3pm. Check out the full line-up here.

It seems I write on this page less and less as time goes on...anyways, I have two more performances under my residency at ISSUE Project Room. April 11 (w/ Tony Conrad) will be a performance of my ED09 composition with a 17-piece string/woodwind ensemble and April 25 (w/ tba) will be a performance of Origin, for my bowed harmonic-guitar ensemble. After these shows I'll take a lengthy break from these type of ensemble performances so come on out before the summer sun graces our chilled bones.
New video clips (from last December's 22-piece ensemble performance of ED09 at Roulette) and photos (from last September's Origin performance at Phillips de Pury HERE. 01/02/09
Happy New Years folks, hopefully your '08 closed nicely. Winter/Spring 2009 is a busy one for myself...working on a short film soundtrack, an 11-piece all string ensemble performance at The Stone in late-February (performing my newly reworked ED09 composition), and I'm pleased to annouce I'll be Artist in Residence at ISSUE Project Room in Spring 2009. For my residency I'll be presenting new and revised works over a span of four performances in March and April. More details later on...

New releases (cassette tape & split cd-r) now available.

The ensemble organization for my London, Bristol, and Paris ensemble performances in October is going quite well. It seems each city's group will consist of 12-15 musicians and there will be some instrumentation that although has been desired, has not yet seen its way into my Ensemble Drones composition (which will be what is performered in these cities) such as Trombone, Bass Trombone, French Horn, and Accordian. You can check an explanation of the Bristol performance here. Details on the shows here.

From the old days.

I'll be doing some East Coast shows this july with D.C.-based Ilya Monosov. For this tour we will be setting up together, playing alternating solo
pieces/songs, and then ending with a collab duo. Should be fun. We are planning to hit D.C., Baltimore, Philly, and NYC. Dates/details coming soon...

New site launched. Each new site seems to be more reduced than the last one, a reduction process of sorts i guess. I've implemented some new features on the visual page, which includes video.

I have a new Net release titled A Circle and the Sound that Fills It on Bremsstrahlung Recordings.
It's actually a re-release of a limited run (50 copies) tape put out about two years ago on Kitty Play. It has been re-mastered and made available for limited-time free download here. A Circle and the Sound that Fills It is part of Bremsstrahlung's Trans>Parent Radiation Series...to read what the label says about the series go here. The release consists of a minimal guitar drone piece split into two tracks that was mathematically arranged via a conceptual equation using pi and a 2.038" circle. 01/01/08
Happy New Year folks. I've recently created a channel on YouTube
to post videos relating to my music and/or art. The first 2 videos are excerpts from my ensemble

A concert review of last
weekend's Burlington, VT performance.
12/09/07
A big thanks to Toby Aronson, Greg Davis, the rest of the
ensemble players, and Tick Tick for all the
time, talent, and desire that went into last night's 13-piece ensemble performance of Ensemble Drones in Burlington, VT. The performance
went amazingly and was truly magical. Two audio recordings and one video recording were made; if
they turn out good they will make their way out to you somehow. People in Burlington are super
friendly and very nice. Thanks, guys!
